AWP VANCOUVER

Cliched view, but it's one of my favourites... from Spanish Banks area. Too busy with AWP events and didn't get around the city much. There was a party at the old Lamplighter in Gastown. I'm sure the last time I was in there I was walked out by the scruff of my neck. But that was another lifetime. Good to see the old UBC gang: Linda Svendsen in any case. Attended the Talon party and it was great to hear Fred Wah and George Bowering read. Daphne Marlatt too. Met Pauline Butling for the first time--wonderful, mountain energy. She reminded me of the women I used to meet in the Kootenays: New Denver, Nakusp, Kaslo, Nelson. Very direct.
The whole bookstore landscape seems to have completely changed there...
The Open Field reading was amazing. Don McKay was not well and didn't attend, so it was Jan Zwicky, Tim Lilburn, Daphne Marlatt, Anne Simpson, Ken Babstock and Christian Bok. For a few AWP related photos click here.
