Michael Nardone: On easy peasy

1.

kevin mcpherson eckhoff's second collection of poems
measures in at 8 inches by 5 and 5/8 inches,
with a depth between 1/8 and 2/8 of an inch.
In this book, there are 68 surfaces:
each surface between 17.6 micrometres and 340 micrometres
in thickness, including four surfaces of "cover," over which, text
and images (illustration, photo, diagram, and, of course, text-image)
have been printed, or, perhaps, more fittingly, impressed.
Only the book's "front" "cover" has color:
a 1-inch taupish gold circle partially overlapped
by a 1-inch circle of burgundy cola,
though this particular qualitative observation
should be kept open for further inquiry, as the writer
of this review suffers from partial, or occasional, color blindness.

The first section of easy peasy is called "DO-IT-YOURSELF."
Below, I have reproduced in its entirety the first poem of this section:

You, too, can engage in easy peasy activity. You, too, can have the experience.

3.

One enters easy peasy activity via any threshold. No particular
entrance matters more than any other. No singular way
has priority or greater privilege. That I have chosen to reproduce
easy peasy
as an index of its alphabetics is rooted in a desire
to anagram easy peasy: to anagram its text, yes, but also its activity.
Following the above instructions as closely, and contingently, as possible,
I want easy peasy to move through the medium of my body.
Through re-articulation, I aspire to perform this composition anew.

Subtextual to graph b. is the role of the pinky fingers in easy peasy activity.

:: therefore ::

7.

Following the initial instructions, we have moved from easy peasy
the book to easy peasy the book as indexed database,
to easy peasy the book as rearticulated poem, to easy peasy the book
as graphical analysis, from which, through these various filters,
we have entered upon, I hope, a ground zero of easy peasy activity.
To ever-so-slightly tap in the air one's Left Index Finger 3,996 times,
following through with each other finger to its factish destination:
is this easy peasy? Is this a performance of the poem?
However close, this, still, misleads; there are gaps fundamentally present,
yet unforeseen. [SHIFT] is a ghost in the machine of text, [RETURN]
and [SPACEBAR] its calculable absences. Then: [DELETE],
the unmoved mover, the known unknown of easy peasy activity.
Here, in these vacancies, pinky to thumb, exists an authorial presence
astonishingly intimate, yet, in its irreproducibility, discretely other.
